How it all came together

Jenny’s Journey — 2021

Ei, Who Is This Guy?

It all started in 2021 when I began my National Service. Like every new chapter, it came with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. I had no idea that stepping into that office would change my life in the most unexpected way.

Godwin is the Cyber Security Manager, and he was responsible for assisting new staff with their PC security onboarding tasks and training new staff on all the company’s cybersecurity requirements and policies. As part of the onboarding process, we were required to pass a cybersecurity exam before anything else could be done, and the pass mark was 85%.

After five attempts, I still couldn’t pass, and it was almost closing time. We had been given slides and an assessment to complete, and honestly, I was exhausted and slightly embarrassed by my scores. But somehow, I gathered the courage to go to him for help.

“How difficult is this exam that you’ve spent all this time on? Me, I was here thinking you were done and just doing your own thing.”

Before I could even explain, he took my laptop, went through the questions, and in less than 30 seconds… scored 100%. I just sat there thinking… who is this guy?

Godwin’s Reflection

This Girl is Quite Pretty...

I remember briefly seeing her during the laptop security onboarding session for the NSP group, and the first thing that came to mind was: “This girl is very pretty.”

I asked which department she was in, secretly hoping she’d say my department. But she said Finance. Since we weren’t in the same department, I was a little disappointed, but I didn’t think too much about it afterward.

There was also this moment I distinctly remember—seeing her sitting alone in the corner of the bus. I found myself rushing just to get the seat beside her. Again, I thought to myself: “This girl is quite pretty ooo.”

We had small conversations here and there on the bus, but at the time, I had already made a personal decision not to get into any romantic relationship at work with an NSP, so I brushed the thought aside quickly.

The Commute

From there, we became cool friends. We’d occasionally sit together on the company bus and have random conversations, but nothing serious ever came from it at the time.

Fast Forward to 2024

I had moved on from the organization and entered the next phase of my life. But because the company bus was still along my route… I continued using it! Well… that didn’t last long. Godwin announced that only current staff could use the bus—literally just a week after I resigned!

To be fair, space was limited… but I was NOT happy at all. In that moment, I decided I was done with him.

The Bus Situation

To be honest, I was a little disappointed that she didn’t tell me she had left the company. I found out through mutual friends, and I remember thinking, “I thought I was her friend?” I wanted to confront her about it, but I just let it go.

And for removing her from the bus, it genuinely wasn’t personal. She just happened to fall within the new policy scope. I honestly didn’t even think she took it personally.

The Catalyst

iPhone Memories Did the Work 😄

One day, he posted a picture we took together at the 2022 end-of-year dinner with the caption: “Save the date.” I couldn’t resist, so I commented: “Actually, we don’t look bad together… (don’t you agree? 😉)”

Godwin continues: Actually, that was the second time I had posted that picture. You know how iPhone memories randomly bring up old photos. The first time I posted it, the conversation was very short. But the second time? A lot of people commented—including her, and that’s what really got us talking.

What started as a joke turned into something unexpected. We laughed about it and even joked about “consulting friends” to help us fix the wedding date. But after that conversation, something shifted. There was suddenly an ease between us that hadn’t really been there before.

The conversations became longer, more intentional, and somehow more personal. We started talking more often, spending more time together, and having deeper conversations. Slowly, what began as friendship became something much more meaningful.

"We learned each other; our strengths, flaws, fears, and dreams, and still chose each other anyway. Through every season, one thing remained constant: We showed up for each other."

Since then, we’ve continued choosing each other—intentionally, wholeheartedly, and with joy. And it has truly been a beautiful journey. Looking back now, it’s amazing how something so beautiful started from something so simple.
